As you know we do sell very few traditional guitars apart from Daniel Friederich guitars and are offering mostly modern guitars such as double-top and lattice. So why did we change our mind are proposing a Fleta copy… simply because we have been blow away by the Fleta of Domenic Roscioli. The sound is simply marvelous and the guitar a joy to play.
If you asked to most of the luthiers who was the real guitar makers who really count in the guitar history, they will of course mention Antonio Torres and of course Ignacio Fleta (1897-1977). Ignacio Fleta has been starting to build guitars and Andres Segovia in 1957. The 60’s are known as being the best period for the Fleta guitars.
The cedar top is a master grade top with very tight grain and the back and sides in Pardo rosewood.
Domenic Roscioli has been working on his Fleta model since he has been making guitars.
Here is what he says when talking about his work on the Fleta guitars:
” When I started making guitars I wanted to make the best sounding traditional guitar I could. The sound of real Fleta guitars impressed me the most of all the guitars I heard. We have a collector here in Adelaide who owns at least 5 original Fleta guitars and I have plans of 3 of them taken from these guitars.(1961, 1968, 1977) The plans of the 1961 are my favorite as this gives the best sounding guitars! The other plans work well too.
Some of these guitars have come to my workshop for minor repairs, so I have studied them carefully!
I think the best period for Fleta is 1960 -1970s.
In the beginning I copied the plans very closely, same size, same thicknesses, similar woods. This produced good results!
I now evaluate each soundboard to produce the best “Fleta” sound I can. I use mainly cedar tops but with master grade spruce you can also get amazing results. ( FOR ME THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT IS THE QUALITY OF THE SOUNDBOARD)
It is a never-ending journey when you try to produce the best guitars you can.
Generally, I aim for strong basses and very clear sparkling trebles. “
