Kenny Hill is renowned for his Signature models (double-top & all-wood lattice) and also for his research into guitarist comfort. Here is his ‘Legacy’ model, which represents the culmination of his research into sound and ergonomics. This modern, avant-garde guitar is the result of over 30 years of experimentation. Designed to preserve and enhance the sound and feel of the classical guitar, it draws inspiration from the Signature model, to which ergonomic features have been added for exceptional comfort, along with a ‘True Temperament’ fret system guaranteeing perfect intonation. Here is a 2026 preowned guitar in mint condition. This guitar is a double-top model featuring an all-wood lattice bracing system. The tone is traditional, with the characteristic qualities of double-top and all-wood lattice guitars: a lovely roundness and a beautiful sustain, with extra power compared to a traditional model.

The ‘Legacy’ model, like the ‘Signature’ model from which it is derived, is characterised by:

  • A ‘double-top’ design (pioneered by Dammann, Wagner and others) comprising a Nomex core (an ultra-lightweight cellular structure), sandwiched between two very thin layers of cedar (on the outside and inside) . This results in an extremely lightweight and high-performance soundboard with a rounded tone and greater dynamic range.
  • It is reinforced by an all-wood lattice bracing system for enhanced harmonics and sustain.
  • Other features include two soundports, a raised fingerboard, a truss rod for easy neck adjustment, and a 20th fret

The standout feature of this guitar, however, lies in its ergonomic design, which enhances playing comfort. Kenny Hill is one of the few luthiers to have developed solutions to address the problems and physical issues associated with the asymmetrical posture required when playing our instrument. This guitar has been designed to prevent back pain and muscle tension. Here is a list of the innovations that contribute to playing comfort:

  • A 64 cm scale length and an ultra-thin neck.
  • The ergonomic design features a body shape that tapers slightly from the treble end towards the bass end (allowing it to rest comfortably against the body) – 9 cm instead of 10 cm.
  • A slanted armrest that is wider than is usually seen. It not only relieves pressure on the forearm, but also alters the posture of the right arm by pulling the shoulder back.
  • A cut-away on the back that makes the playing position more comfortable, more natural and less restrictive. The contouring on the back makes the instrument more comfortable at this pressure point.
  • The option to play standing up with strap attachments

This model features the optional True Temperament fret system. The ‘True Temperament’ fret system compensates for each note on the fingerboard, taking into account the fact that the six strings each have different tensions and densities, and that, in reality, the stretching behaviour of an individual string varies along the entire length of the fingerboard. The aim is not to create a different scale or mode, but rather to improve the accuracy of the equal-temperament scale for which the guitar was designed.
