Here is a new spruce top guitar from Philipp Neumann. That is beyond our expectations. That is a traditional braced guitar built with a reinforced top – only with wood – which stiffened the top without adding any weight. The sound is quite traditional but can compete with lattice and DT loudness. The video will be shoot in early May, so to keep you waiting here are the videos of the cedar guitar that we sold previously.
Philipp Neumann is a young German guitar maker originally based in Leipzig, Germany. He worked with many luthiers such as Stephan Schlemper and created his guitar workshop in 2004. He now lives in Belgium. This guitar is traditional-built but with a strong innovation on the top. He made a lot of research and finally decided to stiffen his top by adding 4 cedar inlaid bars in the back of the top to reinforce it and increase loudness. The top is much stronger but not heavier. The bracing is traditional. As a result, the guitar is loud and balanced with a rather clear color sound which is balanced but the use of cedar.
This new 2021 Philipp Neumann guitar is very open. Its sound is thick and creamy. The very fine wooden and precious stones – green Malachite – inlays on the rosette and head plate enhance the attractiveness of the instrument. The tuners are made by Pagos. Delivered with a Hiscox case.
Here is some information borrowed from Philipp’swebsite :
Since I started my own business in 2004, I have repeatedly refined the design, the construction, and thus the sound from guitar to guitar. The sound top is now supported by fine cedar strips inlaid in the wood, similar to the veins of a leaf. This integrated support structure stiffens the top without additional weight and distributes the sound waves evenly over the entire surface. The result is a highly sensitive top that optimally amplifies even the smallest vibration of the strings. The invention of an integrated armrest with binding and the use of precious stones for the soundhole decoration is also special in the classical guitar world.
Every single one of my guitars is the product of a long, intensive process. I call on all my knowledge and experience in order to produce high-quality instruments. This is why I never build more than two guitars at the same time so that I can concentrate on every detail. Since the sound of the instrument depends greatly on the type of material I only use the best quality tonewoods and no prefabricated parts at all.
A guitar is not finished until it completely satisfies my demands for a clear, open sound with full, round basses, velvety facials, a clear, brilliant trebles, moduled timbre, a singing, sustained tone, and responsiveness. Only when I am satisfied that all these criteria have been met is the woodwork finished and the body closed up and polished with shellac. The results are melodious, unique pieces and professional instruments for guitarists.
