This is the Carsten Kobs that David Russell received in 2019 and has played to date. David Russell plays on powerful instruments that above all offer him the ability to translate all his ideas musically. The ease with which the instrument can be played must give him total freedom.

David Russell’s musical success is based in part on his partnership with his luthiers (Dennis Tolz, Carsten Kobs and, in the past, Matthias Dammann). Sound characteristics are the subject of lengthy discussions between his luthiers and the maestro. Carsten has just delivered a brand new guitar to David and this is a unique opportunity to acquire a guitar that has been designed and played by David Russell to the strictest of specifications. Carsten Kobs considers this guitar to be without doubt the best guitar he has ever made. Power, elegance, roundness and playability are all there.

Luthier Carsten Kobs has been building classical guitars since 1991 and double-tops since 2008. His instruments are in the pure German tradition of double tops. What’s striking is the lightness of the classical guitar – you can hardly feel the instrument once it’s put down.
