We have been waiting for it for many years and finally, our Felix Muller double-top guitar arrived. Felix is a young German builder who is building guitars strongly influenced by the work of his father Antonius Muller. Antonius Muller is a worldwide famous builder whose guitars are played by huge concert players such as Sharon Isbin. The sound is loud but most importantly magic with the right balance between warmness and clarity. Everything you want to do the guitar does it.
Felix is at the beginning of his career and has been building guitars for 4 years – he is 26 years old. His guitars are already acclaimed all over the world and he has a long waiting list. He learned everything from his father Antonius Muller and Felix’s guitars are very similar to his father’s guitars. Antonius has more than 10 years of waiting time and so it is nearly impossible to get a new guitar from him.
Felix and Antonius’ guitars are double-tops using balsa and not Nomex. The sound is more natural et similar to the one of a fan-braced classical guitar. This guitar is very easy to play and is offering a huge dynamic, long sustain and plenty of overtones. What is surprising is that you can have a very round sound or a very clear sound depending of your attack.
The guitar features:
- a cedar top with a balsa core
- Solid Indian rosewood back and sides
- Gotoh tuning machines
- extra C note and an elevated fingerboard.
Here are some information on Antonius Muller for those who are not familiar with Felix’s father:
Antonius Müller was born in 1960 in Taunus. After finishing secondary school in 1976, he began a three-year apprenticeship with Dieter Hopf under the guidance of Dragan Musulin and concluded it in 1979. After completing his military service, he returned to work for Dieter Hopf and Reinholt Seiffert, where he also met Franz Ulrich Albert. After receiving his master’s diploma, together with Franz Ulrich Albert, he opened a workshop under the name “Albert & Müller”. Today, Antonius Müller’s double-top guitars have become highly sought after, not only among professional artists because of their sound and expressiveness and their dynamic range, and therefore the waiting time for a new guitar is 12 years.
