Hervé Lahoun Söbesth Romantic 2016 – France

Here’s a very intriguing guitar named by its creator Hervé Lahoun as SÖBESTH, which is a sort of acronym: Söb for Sober, Esth for aesthetic. ROMANTIC for the attempt at an aesthetic parallel with the romantic guitars of the 18th century. To cut a long story short, it’s a guitar with a ‘mesh’ bracing (i.e. lattice bracing) that incorporates nods and references to early guitars (headstock, tuning machines, neck, rosace). The sound is undoubtedly the one of a lattice braced guitar with a beautiful dynamic. An opportunity to discover!

Hervé Lahoun is a luthier who stands out for his innovations and choices in lutherie. Here is a guitar named Söbesth in homage to romantic guitars. It seems to us that the overall structure of the guitar is similar to a lattice without carbon or balsa, so all wood. The guitar is in very good condition. An opportunity to discover a pioneering French luthier.
It incorporates many of the features of Hervé Lahoun’s research, such as (information taken from Mr Lahoun’s website):
Spruce top from a 1998 batch.
Solid rosewood body (Dalbergia Latifelia, Cites OK) for the back and sides (exterior),
 structured interior -wood composite-, basswood, balsa, red stained maple, for a final thickness of 7MM.
Honduran Cedar neck (Swietenia Macrophylla, Cites ok). Two integrated carbon bars.
Fingerboard, bridge, headstock, purfling and rosette reinforcement in African ebony (Diospyros Crassiflora, Cites ok). *Saddle joint at the bottom of the body (composite ebony / mahogany Bubinga -Guibourtia Demeusei, Cites ok).
Maille top bracing concept, 100% spruce made up of 117 laminated pieces (from a very old Pleyel piano top), plus 4 turntables (under the bridge, at the end of the ‘wings’ and at the side of the mouth). Bars, X3 spruce.
Composite spruce/maple back bars, stained red.

The neck is black lacquered, stained in the mass.
Ultra-fine PU varnish, total weight
