Everybody knows that Granada is the place where you will find some of the greatest luthiers of Spain, Mario Aracama is one of those. His guitar offers the sweetness of the Granada sound plus a great dynamic. Mario graduated from the London Guildhall University specializing in traditional classical and flamenco guitars under the supervision of David Whiteman. in 2003, Mario moved to Granada and developed his craft with Antonio Marin. He is very close to Michael Ritchie and Jose Vigil who are Granada-based luthiers. In addition to this international training, Mario has fully integrated into his craft all the know-how of the Granada luthiers.
Here is a brand new Mario Aracama from 2023. We consider Mario Aracama as one of the most talented luthiers of the new generation of grenada luthiers. We consider his guitars as being modern traditional guitars which means that they are offering the fruity Spanish tone but with big dynamics: a real pleasure to play. This guitar offers the sweetness of the Granada sound plus extra power. As a result: the high quality of the Granada sound is there but with some loudness, halfway from the voice of a traditional guitar and the loudest double top or lattice guitar, a clear traditional tone with wonderful basses. Have a look at Philippe’s review you will like it.
For this 2023 guitar, we selected with Mario Aracama a wonderful set of Madagascar rosewood and a superb spruce top very lightly braced. One very interesting thing which is a key feature in Mario’s process of making the guitar: he assembles his tops years before assembling the guitar. He makes sure all the tops stay in a regular moisture content room with some applied tensión on them. This allows choosing the best top which is then matured which helps the guitar to be right opened the very first day. The top of this guitar for instance has been glued in October 2019 and has spent more than 2 years stored with tension on it. It helps to settle down the whole top working as a unified piece and gain the required stiffness in order to receive string tension.
