Masaru Kohno (1926-1989) a Japanese master inspired by the Spanish lutherie
Masaru Kohno has been inspired by the Spanish masters of the 50s such as Fleta, Arcangel Fernandez. He won in 1967 the first price of luthier at an international lutherie competition directed by par Ignacio Fleta, Robert Boucher, Nicolas Alfonso, Joaquin Rodri, and Alirio Diaz.
The sound of this Kohno 20:
Even if Masaru Kohno was very much inspired by the Spanish school, one cannot say that the sound of his classical guitar could be comparable to a Ramirez for instance. What characterizes this guitar is the good projection and the nice string separation. The trebles are clear as one could expect with a spruce top guitar. The 66cm string length requires some time to get used to it. A nice guitar which will surely make the buyer happy.
