The model No. 20 corresponds to the middle of the range of the Kohno guitars of today. The guitar is in perfect condition and has been repolished by a French luthier based in Paris Romuald Prouvost. This Kohno has kept its brightness and its charm. There is a tiny invisible crack which has been repaired on the edge of the lower side. A great Kohno for the amateurs of vintage Kohno guitars. A nice guitar at a gentle price.
Masura Kohno (1926-1989) a japanese master inspired by the Spanish lutherie
Masura Kohno has been inspired by the spanish masters of the 50s such as Fleta, Arcangel Fernandez. He won in 1967 the first price of luthier at an international lutherie competition directed by par Ignacio Fleta, Robert Boucher, Nicolas Alfonso, Joaquin Rodri and Alirio Diaz.
The sound of this Kohno 20:
Even if Masura Kohno was very much inspired by the spanish school, one cannot say that the sound of his classical guitar could be comparable to a Ramirez for instance. What caracterizes this guitar is the good projection and the nice string separation. The trebles are clear as cne could expect with a spruce top guitar. The 66cm string lenght requires some time to get use to it. A nice guitar which will surely make the buyer happy.
