Reza is a German luthier who makes ‘Dammann style’ double-top guitar which are among the greatest. We had the chance to compare his guitar with a 2015 Dammann and really we have been amazed by the quality of Reza’s guitars.
Double-top classical guitars: one of the best guitars you could find.
Good double-tops guitars are not easy to find. There are a group of excellent luthiers such as Andreas Krischner, Andreas Krimse, Michael Bruck, and Dieter Muller. Most of the time, the problem with double-tops is a question of balance, balance between projection and sustain, brightness and darkness. Here with Reza‘s guitars we are close to perfection. His guitars are inspired by Matthias Dammann’s work who is a close friend of Reza.
This guitar is light, loud, and not thick, the treble is just bright enough, the bass strong and loud. When trying the guitar, we have to feeling to really hear David Russell’s guitar.
Reza will definitely be one of the important double-top makers.
The back and sides are of course in solid wood. Here there is wonderful Congo rosewood. The overall guitar is very light and the playability is excellent – one has to know that Reza is also as well an excellent guitar player. The trebles are fruity and the basses dark and very low. The top is made of two cedar tops with nomex. They are very thin and the nomex can be seen by reflection.
Reza’s guitars are very rare because the luthier makes very few guitars per year and most of them are already sold when finished.
