Since the 80’s when the double tops have been created in Germany, many luthiers have refined the process of DT making to achieve a tone color that could be traditional but with a strong voice and which could offer a lot of musical possibilities. Vincent Humml is part of what I will call the new second generation of builders. His guitars are one step ahead of the original double-tops made in Germany by Gernot Wagner and Matthias Dammann in the ’80s. The sound is pure, loud, very thick, and elegant. The guitar produces a three-dimension sound which is amazing. Have a look at the video review, you will be surprised.
The craftsmanship is top-notch and tasteful. The rosette and the inlays are sort of ‘art deco’ inspired. The binding and the polish are immaculate.
The playability is as well remarkable. The guitar is highly responsive with a big response which remains however very sensitive to the player’s intentions. The basses are round and warm and the trebles clear and thick.
The guitar offers:
- spruce/nomex/cedar top
- amazing Indian rosewood with a sapwood
- Scheller tuners
- elevated finger board
- extra C and C sharp notes
- 12-hole-tie bloch
