Ch. Koumridis Doubletop “Elegante” 63 cm No. 261- Greece

Here is the new double-top design from Charalampos Koumridis called Elegante. That’s a double-top guitar based on the doubletop model of Charalampos but modify to meet the requirements of players with a small size or smaller hands.

The overall structure of the double top is the same as the usual DT of Charalampos but all the parameters have been modifiy to meet a 63 cm string-length. Here are  the measurements :

• Upper bout width: 26 cm instead of 28 cm (-2 cm)
• Lower bout width: 34 cm instead of 37 cm (-4 cm)
• Waist width: 22 cm insread of 24 cm (-2 cm)
• Side width at upper bout: 9 cm instead of 9.3 cm (-0.3 cm)
• Side width at lower bout: 9,2 cm instead of 10.8 cm (-1.6 cm)
• Body Length: 47 cm instead ot 48.4 cm (-1.4 cm)
• Total Length: 97,5 cm instead of 99.8 cm (-2 cm)

The string length is 2 cm smaller 63 cm instead of 65 cm but the width and the string spacing is the same as on standard guitar.

For upper-level guitarists or concert players who are smaller of have smaller hands, reducing the stringlength from 65 to 63 cm was not enough. For greater comfort, we also had to reduce the thickness of the guitar (-1 cm), the width of the soundboard (-2 cm, -2 cm, -4 cm) and the length of the soundboard. The bracing and wood thickness were revised accordingly to offer the same sound performance despite lower string tension.

Charalampos Koumridis is a Greek luthier making amazing modern guitars both lattice and double-top which offer a wonderful musicality. His double-top is as good as his lattice guitars, not a copy from the German double-top but his own version. Among the best double top you can find!

The guitar integrates the new frame that Charalampos has developed to increase the dynamics of the guitar.

This double-top guitar weighs 1.6 kg. The whole guitar is the result of Charalampos analysis and not a copy from the German double-top. The guitar has a solid cocobolo rosewood back and an unusual for doubletop double-side which gives more mass to the guitar and long sustain.

The balance between brightness and warmness is perfect, the sound is creamy and fat.
