We have been suprised how good by this spruce and Rio rosewood guitar is. This guitar is highly comparable to the Friederich from the 80s. Same projection, same tonal colour and in addition the brightness and the precision of spruce and the warm tone of the Rio rosewood.

Daniel Friederich guitars are among the most-sought after guitars in the world. The n°162 is an early example of Friederich concert guitars. We have been suprised how good by this spruce is. This guitar is highly comparable to the Friederich from the 80s. Same projection, same tonal colour and in addition the brightness and the precision of spruce .
This concert Friederich n° 162 from 1965 was offered to the seller’s mother ‘s by her husband as a present for her birth. The guitar has remained in the family for more than 50 years , only one owner.
At that time M. Friederich was making 3 guitar models (until 1970), the student / semi-concert model which were called Récital and Arpèges with different rosette and basic wood. You can recognize these Récital and Apège model by the rosette, the wood and most importantly the fact that there is no serial number on the tag. These ‘intermediate’ models are not comparable in sound with the concert models. There are some old Friederich guitars for sale and if there is no serial number, these guitars are not concert guitars at all and should be not be sold at a high price at all.
Top is spruce
Compare with the ‘after 1970’ concert guitar, the concert guitars at that time were lighter because the side were made on only plain wood (no double side) they were made with spruce top and Brazilian rosewood.
- Everything is original (tuner, fret, polish and the case -). The guitar has the same rosette and the same shape that all the well-known Friederich
- The overall condition is good. The top has some playware but is free of cracks.
- The playability is excellent.
Overall comments on the guitar: I have tried many Friederich guitars and I have been totally blown away by this one: there are huge dynamics – a big sound – the notes are full and beautiful as you would expect from a Friederich. To me that guitar is much better than the last ones that we sold from 1991 and 1980… the problem with some Friederich is that some of them are becoming ‘empty’ by too much playing. Maybe it is the Spruce or the Brazilian rosewood.. but on no way this guitar could be considered as a pre’Friederich’. It is a great guitar and a true Concert Friederich.
