Gérard Audirac is an innovative French luthier who developped for 30 years ago a concept of concert guitar without any opening on the top. We agreed to take this guitar on consignment with curiosity and are happy to present this 2009 concert model guitar which is close to perfect condition. A great opportunity and a great surprise : long sustain, clarity, with all the notes being very homogeneous all over the neck.

As you know, the innovations are key for us and more than welcome when it comes to our precious instruments. That is why we have been very curious to carefully listen to Gerard Audirac guitars. Gerard Audirac – who had been as well followed by Bastien Burlot another French luthier – is one of the rare luthier who questioned the anatomy of the guitar to improve her performances. He mostly focused on the top and finally create  – first innovation – a guitar top without any sound hole. The sound-hole is moved to the upper side – second innovation. The objectif is of course to increase the top vibration surface and in the same time to provide to the player a better feedback of his playing.

The conclusion of the second innovation  – the soundhole on the the upper side – really depends of the player tastes. Some of them will consider that it bring too much sound and too much basses which gives a wrong idea of what the sound really is for the listener. Others will love it because the big sound that that ear, they will have a better command of the musicality.

When listening to the guitar for front, our conclusions are really positive : a bigger sound with rather clear tone and a surprising homogeousity of the notes which are all long and thick.

That is surely an interesting research for the guitar – Bastien Burlot for instance has kept the first innovation but moved the sound-hole in the lower side.
