Mirko Migliorini, based near Lake Como in northern Italy, is one of the few Italian luthiers who make double-top guitars. Like the vast majority of Italian luthiers, Mirko draws inspiration from the great traditional masters (Fleta, Romanillos, Torres, etc.).  Consequently, these double-top guitars offer a traditional tone, yet with remarkable power and balance across the entire neck. The craftsmanship is meticulous and well-considered. As such, Mirko also provides a tuning kit with three nut pieces of different heights. A very thoughtful touch.

Mirko is a luthier with a waiting list stretching back several years, renowned for his powerful and well-balanced double-top guitars. This guitar, No. 440, was selected at the Roma Expo 2026 from among four other double-top guitars by Mirko. It stands out for its powerful and well-balanced tone across the entire length of the neck, with just the right balance of brightness and warmth. Mirko perfectly describes the sound of his guitars.
Here is how Mirko describes the tonal profile of these double-top guitars:
“These are very balanced instruments, both across the different registers (even in the treble, beyond the 12th fret) and in terms of polyphony, where the voices, whether there are two or more, are well-defined and clearly distinguishable from one another. Among the other recognised characteristics are the volume and power of the sound, designed to allow dynamic variations ranging from ‘piano’ or ‘pianissimo’ to ‘forte’ or ‘fortissimo’. Great attention is paid to the quality of the sound produced by the guitarist’s playing style, which always produces a pure, natural tone, leaving the tonal characteristics unchanged.
The sustain is excellent across all registers, particularly in the high register, where it is inevitably weak. Achieving this requires great care, a very long time, and a rigorous selection of raw materials.”
