With each new arrival, it seems to us that the new O’Leary guitar is better than the last. I don’t know if it’s true, but it shows our enthusiasm and the immense pleasure that O’Leary guitars bring. The sound is magical and captivating. Power and balance, just the right amount of tradition and modernity. Irish luthiers Michael & Alec O’Leary are a benchmark when it comes to lattice concert classical guitars. While the Australians are the masters of the genre, Michael & Alec O’Leary are no less a renowned reference, with their concert classical guitars played by such renowned concert artists as Berta Rojas, Sharon Isbin, Sergio Assad, David Russell, Marco Socias, Elefteria Kotzia and Elena Zucchini. Absolute proof of the sound quality of their classical guitars. Michael and his son build an average of 9 guitars a year and have a two-year waiting list. They do us the honour of making one guitar a year.

As usual, the first thing that strikes you is the beauty of the tone – neither too light nor too dark – with a very thick sound without any ‘lattice’ connotations. The bass is expressive without being intrusive, and the highs are crystalline and fruity. Simon Marty’s guitars also have a certain polyphony, but with a more elegant mid-range. It’s an honour for us because Michael & Alec have several years of waiting on their list. A lot of presence and a lot of musicality and expressiveness for a guitar of great lutherie.

Being a fan of Bertas Rojas and Sharon Isbin, having a classical guitar from Alec and Michael O’Leary was simply compulsory for us. We ordered the first guitar a long time ago. This third guitar is from the Professional series the best one and offers wonderful craftsmanship with very impressive Exotic Ebony for the back and side. The playability of the guitar is great and the sound is incredible. The string separation is amazing and the guitar has just some fantastic medium which makes the guitar very balanced. The trebles are crystal clear.

I will position this guitar among the very best lattice guitars sharing the sound quality of a Simon Marty with but a little bit warmer.
