Vincent Humml is part of the second generation of German luthiers who invented double-topped guitars; he founded his workshop in 2019. Having grown up with modern German lutherie, he has perfectly integrated the construction parameters of double-topped guitars, benefiting from the research of his older peers while injecting a unique musical elegance. This double-top guitar is powerful with an elegant and complex sound thanks to its spruce top. Compared to the 44 that we listed a couple of year ago, this one is more open, offering, thicker notes and a rather traditional tone.

Vincent’s guitars combine contemporary design with exceptional craftsmanship, embodying a modern approach to guitar making while retaining the rich, traditional sound sought after by classical guitarists. His mastery of the double-top technique allows him to create instruments of immense power without sacrificing the rich, elegant tonal qualities that characterise great classical guitars.

Since the invention of double-tables in the 1980s by Gernot Wagner and Matthias Dammann, a whole generation of luthiers has developed and perfected the double-table concept. The power has been gradually increased, but above all, the musicality and dynamics of these instruments have been developed to give them progressiveness and ease of play. The nasal character and short notes of the first double-tables have disappeared, giving way to a fairly round sound with powerful harmonics that support the musical discourse. What is surprising when you pick up the instrument is how easy it is to play, with a fairly thin U-shaped neck.

The result is an elegant and powerful double-top guitar with an almost perfect sound, incredible depth and sustain. The tone is similar to that of a traditional guitar, but with a speed and responsiveness to touch and a roundness that betrays the double-top construction.
